Frequently Asked Questions
We’re excited to have you join our Global Engagement Trips program! You probably have many questions about the experience, and we’re here to help.
Rest assured, there will be several opportunities to learn more about what’s ahead. Each trip group meets at least twice before departure, typically on Zoom, to go over details and answer questions. Trip leadership is also available to address any concerns you might have.

The Big Three Questions
While every trip is different, our team tries to make you as comfortable and safe as possible.
Keep in mind that we travel with local YMCA and tour professionals. We've been doing this awhile.

Where and what will I eat?
Most meals are served family style and enjoyed with the entire group, except during free time.
Restaurants are carefully chosen with reservations often made in advance, while prioritizing both quality and food safety.
There is no need to reach for your wallet. Meals and tip are included. Simply relax and enjoy the local cuisine.

Where will I stay?
Hotels and/or accommodations are located in safe areas, generally rated between 3-4 stars, and include breakfast.

All rooms are double occupancy, except when single room requests can be honored. This is a great question to ask your trip leader!

Rooms are climate-controlled and many hotels offer pool access.

How am I getting around?
Once you arrive at our destination, all transportation is included!
Most travel is conducted via van or motorcoach, but you also may enjoy in-country flights, boat rides, and scenic train journeys.
During free time, participants can opt for their own transportation, including Grab, Uber or other rideshare services.
"I have been on two trips to Vietnam, one to Peru and one to the YMCA of the Seven Council Fires in South Dakota. All of them were well incredibly planned and executed. I look forward to going to Kenya!" - Felix Wong
Trip Leadership and Eligibility
Who leads the trip?
U.S.-based staff and YMCA leaders from partner countries. U.S. staff accompany participants throughout the trip.
Who is eligible to participate?
Adults 18+ with a valid passport (if traveling internationally, 6+ months validity upon arrival).
Participants must meet self-assessed travel and health requirements and undergo a criminal background check (YMCA child-safety requirement).
Do I need to be a YMCA member to participate?
No. Anyone is welcome to join a YMCA Global Engagement Trip. However, participants who are YMCA members receive a significantly lower trip rate.
You may be a member of any YMCA association to qualify for the member rate—your membership simply needs to be active at the time of registration and maintained throughout the duration of the trip.
We encourage you to become a YMCA member in your local community. Visit our national "Find Your Y" directory to join. If you live in the Arlington-Mansfield Area YMCA service area, please JOIN HERE.
